Description

Æðarvötn are two lakes on the northeast side of Melrakkslétta. The northern and larger one lies just south of the main road close to the deserted town of Skinnalón. It is about 0.58 km² in area. The smaller lake is estimated at 0.10 km2 in area. Both lakes are 5 m above sea level. There is some a decent fishing in the lakes, mostly good brown trout, which are often around 2 pounds, and some char, which are mostly quite small. Æðarvötn are a short distance north of Raufarhöfn.

Fishing rules

Holders of the Fishing Card must have the card and ID with them and be prepared to show the fishing guard when he visits the anglers. It is strictly forbidden to leave rubbish and drive off-road. Children under the age of 14 fish for free accompanied by a cardholder. It is requested that people send information about catches by e-mail to [email protected].

Directions

Fishing is permitted in both lakes, but the larger one is considered to be better.

Regarding Æðarvatn, the main road lies just above the northern end of the lake, in approx. 100 m distance, and it is good to park cars there. In Æðavatn, it is best to fish from bays and headlands along the shore.
