What can be fished

The trout section in the River Breiðdalsá has long been very popular and groups are increasingly looking to take the same days year after year. Of course, the weather can be rough in early spring, but the fish are there and they can take aggressively. Also, people love the fishing lodge at Eyjar. The surroundings of Breiðdalsá are spectacular and it is said that people fish in few places that are as beautiful. The lowest part of the trout section in Breiðdalsá holds mainly sea-run char and occasionally sea-trout and salmon. Further up the river, in the valley above the waterfall Beljandi and high up in Norðurdalsá, resident brown trout can be found and high up in Norðurdalsá. The average annual catch is 270 Arctic char and 480 brown trout.

Accommodation from May 1st to June 30th

On the banks of river Breiðdalsá in the land of Eyjar, which is the lower part of the river, there is a beautiful fishing lodge that offers one of the best accommodation facilities in the country. There are eight double rooms, each with a private bathroom, satellite TV and internet connection. A luxury suite is available for those who really want to make themselves comfortable. The house has a sauna and there is a hot tub. The dining room and the lounge are well equipped and an elegant fireplace is prominent. The lodge has a large terrace with a gas grill and good facilities for outdoor dining. From the terrace there is a magnificent view of the irresistible mountain range of Breiðdalur.

Accommodation July 1st to September 30th

Accommodation is not included from July – September for trout and char anglers but it is often possible to book a room in the fishing lodge and receive the same service as that provided to salmon anglers. It is also possible to stay in made-up rooms in accommodation units next to the fishing lodge, with or without food and with use of a bathroom in the lodge. Prices are subject to agreement.

Fishing rules

6 rods are allowed in the spring, and 4 rods from July 1st. It is permitted to take one salmon daily, under 70 cm and all trout, but it is recommended to release as many char over 45 cm as possible.

The fishing area consists of the estuary and the lower part of the river as well as areas at the top of both Breiðdalsá and Norðurdalsá
