What can be fished

Description

River Deildará on Melrakkaslétta is a productive salmon river. Like other salmon rivers in Þistilfjörður there is a good chance to hook into a big salmon in Deildará. The river is not particularly big and is therefore suitable for those who want to use a single-handed rod. Lightweight rods, small flies and hitch tubes are the right tools for Deildará. It has a lot to offer; varied fishing spots, unique natural beauty, peaceful environment, diverse bird life and the most important thing: the river is productive. The average catch in the last 6 years is about 230 salmon.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

The fishing cabin is spacious and the facilities are as good as they can get. There are three large rooms, each with a private bathroom, in a house that was built recently next to the older fishing cabin. The older house has been renovated and all facilities are very elegant. It has a spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen with, for example , a hob, oven and large refrigerator and a gas grill at the terrace.

Anglers may arrive at the fishing lodge 45 minutes before the start of fishing and must leave the house no later than one hour after the fishing time ends. It is possible to buy a house cleaning service for 20.000 ISK. If anglers want to clean the lodge themselves, they need to leave it like it was on their arrival. Made-up beds cost 1500 ISK per/person.

Directions

From Akureyri, drive towards Raufarhöfn, through Húsavík and by Ásbyrgi. Just before coming to Kópasker, turn right and drive over Hófaskarð. The cabin stands at Deildará, below the road, just before one arrives at Raufarhöfn.

Deildará is about 7 km, divided into three beats and one rod fishes each beat. There are in total 16 fishing spots.
