The popularity of the fishing area in Eldvatnsbotnar has increased a lot in recent years, as it is possible to get good fishing there in beautiful surroundings. Eldvatnsbotnar encompasses the upper part of Eldvatn in Meðalland in Vestur-Skaftafellssýsla. The river originates in the so-called Rafstöðvarlón, which is south of the farm at Botnar. It flows in two tributaries from the lake and both tributaries are fished, especially the western one. Anglers also have access to fishing in lake Fljótsbotn, which includes char and sea trout. Sea trout arrive earlier in Eldvatnsbotnar than to other sea trout areas in South Iceland and the best time there is from around 10-14th of August and into August.
