What can be fished

Description

River Fjarðará, together with River Þverá, are nice sea-run char rivers that flow through the lowlands of the beautiful and famous Borgarfjörður estuary. Together they form a fishing area of up to 20 km. By nature, these rivers are most suitable for sea-run char fishing, but a few salmon are also caught there every summer.

There is no fishing cabin by the river. Accommodation options are in Borgarfjörður eystri e.g. in the hotel Álfheimum or at blabjorg.is

Fishing rules

It is permitted to take one salmon under 70 cm per day and five char under 47 cm. Two rods are allowed on the upper beat and one on the lower beat.

Directions

Lower beat (brown trout): from the estuary to the fishing spot Glæsodda. Upper beat (chance of a salmon ): from Glæsodda to the waterfalls in Þverá and Fjarðará.

Attractions

Borgarfjarðarhöfn, and also Hafnarhólmur which is the nesting place of 10,000 puffins. There you can enjoy refreshments at Hafnarhús Kaffi. Also, a visit to Álfakaffi is recommended.
