Description
Gljúfurá is a good three rod salmon river in the beautiful surroundings of Borgarfjörður. There are many diverse fishing pools and the river is suitable for both fly- and worm fishing. Even though the river is suitable for fly fishing most of the salmon has been caught by worms. Gljúfurá is about 20 km long with a rather special source, but it splits out of River Langá waterway about 2 km from Lake Langavatn. The salmon can migrate about 11 km up to the waterfall Klaufhamarsfoss and the river has about 60 marked fishing spots that are fun to fish.
Accommodation & Facilities
Angling lodge
Gljúfurá is very suitable for small groups or families. The fishing cabin is spacious with four double rooms, each with a bathroom and a shower. It has a good terrace, a hot tub and a gas grill. The house is one of the coolest self catering cabins available. It is supplied with essentials such as toilet paper and cleaning products. An optional cleaning service can be purchased. The house has an oven and cutlery needed for at least 8 people and TV.
Keys for the cabin are in a special keybox that can be opened with a code provided. The cabin is accessible by all kinds of cars.
Warden: Magnús Fjeldsted s: 866-1013 can arrange cleaning of the cabin, if anglers want to buy such a service.
Fishing rules
After the quota has been reached, it’s allowed to fish with a fly but anglers are obliged to release all salmon.
Directions
The Fishing lodge is located in the land of Svignaskarð, about 20 km from Borgarnes. At the sign Svignaskarð, turn left from Road 1, take the first track/trail to the right and drive it to the end (4-5 minutes) until you see the lodge.
The fishing area extends from waterfall Klaufhamarsfoss to Norðurá and is approx. 13 km long.
