Description
Híðarvatn in Selvogur has for years been one of the most productive Arctic char lakes in the country. Its maximum depth is about 5 meters, and its size is just over 3.3 km². Its drainage is through Vogsós, but the lake comes up from the lava through countless springs. Hlíðarvatn is a very exciting fishing lake and thousands of char are caught there every summer. This is a fish that is considered very delicious and fun to eat. Most of the fish are 0.5-1 pounds, but every summer a few 5-pound fish and even bigger ones are caught. In addition to sea char, occasional salmon have been caught in the lake.
The angling club Árblik is one of the clubs that leases fishing rights in Hlíðarvatn. It was established in 1988. The club rents out 2 rods together with a fishing cabin and the rods are rented out together.
Accommodation & Facilities
Fishing cabin
There is a nice fishing cabin, sleeping space for 5 and the facilities are the best. There is a solar cell in the house, and it supplies the house with electricity. The anglers must bring dishcloths and tablecloths, clean the house well before departure and take all rubbish with them. They are responsible for any damage to the house that may occur during his stay. There is a good fishing map in the fishing cabin and there is also a fishing book
Fishing rules
Fishing can start at 20.00 the night before the assigned fishing day and it must end 24 hours later. At other times fishing time is free. The fishing cabin must be returned before 19.00 for the next group. Anglers are encouraged to always behave well and to respect the general etiquette.
