Description

Austurey is a fun trout fishing beat in Hólaá in Árnessýsla. It is only permitted to fish on the south side of the river, or on the side where the farm Austurey stands. It’s forbidden to wade over to the other bank that belongs to Laugardalshólar. It is possible to fish for both char and trout. Fly fishing has mostly been used in recent years and it is great fun to use dry fly when conditions allow.

Fishing rules

People are asked to be tidy at the beat, remove all rubbish and fish moderately. Anglers are asked to print out the fishing permit and leave it on the dashboard in their cars when they go fishing so that the fishing guard can monitor. A fishing book is at the farm Austurey 1, and all catches must be recorded in that book.

Directions

To get to the fishing area, drive on road (364) from Laugarvatnsvegur (37), drive to the end until you reach Austurey 2. Then drive a little further with the farm Austurey 1 on their right. A trail to the fishing beat is on the left-hand side and if that trail is driven to the end, it will be approx. central to the fishing beat and their people can park the car. The fishing beat Austurey is about 5-6 km and starts 200 – 300 meter below the fishing spot Far and reaches down to Lake Apavatn.
