What can be fished

Description

Laxá in Kjós and Bugða have for many years been among the best salmon rivers in Iceland. The landscape in Kjós is stunning and there are a good number of beautiful fishing spots. The fishing area is about 25 km long with 92 marked fishing spots. This is the perfect river for fly fishing with a single handed rod. Laxá in Kjós has got a new tenant, who recently finished some improvements to the lodge and offers better prices on licenses. Good fishing opportunities there.

Accommodation & Facilities

Angling lodge

Anglers are accommodated in the renovated fishing lodge by Ásgarður, just above the highway.  It was built in 2006 and is truly one of the most magnificent fishing lodges in Iceland. There are twelve bedrooms, “en suite”, all with a great view over the river.  The lodge has a spacious dining room and a good lounge with a fireplace.

Directions

From Reykjavik, take Highway 1 in the direction to the Hvalfjarðartunnel. Just before the tunnel, turn  right into the valley of Hvalfjörður and drive until you come to the bridge over Laxá in Kjós. Drive over the bridge and turn immediately to the right and keep on that road for about 1 km. Then the road to the lodge will be visible on the right side.

The fishing area reaches from the waterfall Sjávarfoss and up to the fishing spot Skuggi. It also includes all Bugða from the Lake Meðalfellsvatn down to the confluence with Laxá.
