What can be fished

Description

The river Minnivallarlækur is in Landsveit, not far from the town Hella. There are few places similar in the world. The crystal clear and fertile spring water provides a setting for some of the best trout habitat in Iceland. The location of the stream means that the water temperature is very stable and the conductivity and the fertility is high. These conditions create ideal habitat for insect life and for brown trout. There are few places in the world where anglers can hook ten-pound trout on tiny dry flies, in sizes 18 and even smaller. Every year, brown trout that are around and over 10 pounds are caught and the number of fish between 4-8 pounds. Minnivallalækur is truly a trout angler’s paradise.

Accommodation & Facilities

Fishing cabin

On the banks of Minnivallalækur, close to the first actual fishing spot in the stream, Húsabreiða, there is a magnificent and cozy fishing cabin for anglers. The house has four double rooms, two bathrooms with a shower, kitchen, dining room and a lounge. On the terrace behind the house there is a hot tub that is ideal to relax in after a long day of fishing. There is a gas grill on site as well as an oven, hob, two refrigerators – one with a freezer and a dishwasher. To turn on the hot tub, enter a switch marked hot tub on the electrical panel in the kitchen. The temperature of the tub should be good on arrival and since there is continuous flow in the tub, it does not need to be emptied when leaving. However, guests are asked to switch off the tub again on departure. On the day of arrival people can come to the house after 2 pm but must leave the house at 1pm on the day of departure. People are reminded to clean the cabin and take out all rubbish on departure.
