What can be fished

Description

Sog Bíldsfell is a typical late summer beat and produces good salmon fishing in August and September. The salmon can lie in many places in this big river. It is dangerous to fish in Sogið without a life jacket. The char fishing is consistent and good all summer and many people come only to fish for char. For salmon fishing, single-handed-, switch- or two-handed rods with a floating line are used. As the summer progresses and autumn sets in, intermediate lines and sinkers are commonly used. Individual shifts or full days are available.

Accommodation & Facilities

Fishing cabin

There is a nice fishing cabin on site with four double rooms. The old house was renovated during the winter of 2017 and is magnificent. The house has heating, electricity, and a shower. People may arrive at the cabin one hour before the fishing begins and it must be vacated one hour after the fishing ends. The guests provide their own food, toiletries, bed linen and towels. There is an oven, gas grill, toilet paper, duvets and pillows in the cabin. People are asked to clean the house thoroughly and take all trash with them when they leave the house.

The house is left open, and anglers are asked to leave it open on departure. The keys to the house hang on the wall inside the house, if people want to have it locked while they are fishing. Passenger cars can easily be driven to the house.

Fishing rules

It can be dangerous to wade the river and people are advised to wear a life jacket

It is allowed to take one salmon a day that is smaller than 69 cm

It is mandatory to record all fishing in the fishing books at the lodge!

Directions

If coming from Reykjavík, turn left up the Grafningsvegur (nr.350) before coming to the bridge over the Sog at Þrastarlundur. The off-road to Bíldsfell is then about 5 km. That off-road is driven all the way to the river, where the lodge is standing.

Fishing area: The west bank of Sog, from the outfall below the Írafoss Power Plant down to the River Tunguá, where fishing in the land of Torfastaðir starts (see a map).
