What can be fished

Steinsmýrarvötn are located below the farm, Syðri-Steinsmýri, and are within walking distance of rental houses there. Steinsmýravötn has local Arctic char and brown trout as well as sea trout and sea char. The spring fishing in the area is fantastic and the group of anglers have been getting up to 80 fish each. During the summer, in June and July, char fishing is good, and it can be big in the lakes, with an average weight of over 3 pounds. In August, the sea trout starts to migrate, and it lasts until the end of the year. Therefore, the season from August to the end of the fishing season is usually very good.

It is almost 300 kilometers from Reykjavík to the area and it’s about 3 hours drive. Drive to Kirkjubæjarklaustur and turn right down Meðallandsvegur (204) just before reaching Skaftárbrún. Meðallandsvegur is a ring road when driving from Reykjavík, so it is also possible to turn south / right onto the turn-off of Meðallandsvegur (204) somewhat east of Kúðafljótsbrú. The fishing area consists of two lakes and streams that flow from the lakes, into and between them.
