What can be fished

Description

River Þverá is about 26 km long, from its source at Hámúlagarður in Fljótshlíð to the confluence of the River Eystri Rangá. It is rather small and neat to begin with but grows as tributaries join . It reaches about 4 cubic meters / sec at the confluence of Eystri Rangá. The fishing has been maintained with the release of about 20 thousand salmon smolts a year, which are released into 4 ponds by the river. Þverá has through the years given a remarkably good catch on the four rods, and the catch in 2020 was 675 salmon.

Accommodation & Facilities

Guesthouse

No fishing lodge is included with Þverá, from the summer of 2021, but Hellishólar right by the riverbank offers people accommodation and a three-course “anglers” dinner. It is best to book accommodation by sending an email to [email protected]

Fishing rules

Two anglers can share a rod and they must be together at a fishing spot. If people are seen using more rods than allowed, they can expect to be expelled from the river. All catches must be recorded before departure. People are asked not to drive off-road and to close gates.

Directions

The fishing area is about 20 km long and reaches from Gluggafoss and all the way downstream to the confluence. There is a total of 65 marked fishing spots in the river.
